As hosting technology continues to improve, so do our expectations; we don’t want to be able to run upside down on ceilings, we want realism, we want to feel part of the game. Video games have become rather skilled at achieving convincing visuals, but the context underpinning those visuals can pale in comparison. Whilst true that some games don’t warrant or desire being true to life, some do try, and some fail. The genre of warfare games abbreviated to the term ‘milsim’ (military simulators) was born from this desire for realism and has since gained popularity in recent years because they offer a raw, cerebral gaming experience over scoreboards and distracting character designs. One of those such games that has garnered many approving looks is Hell Let Loose, a game that tries to attain realistic combat, giving players a real taste of WWII warfare. Running on the Unreal Engine 4 and built by Black Matter, Hell Let Loose was published by Team 17 on Xbox and PlayStation consoles just a few weeks back after a successful tenure as a PC exclusive – it has thoroughly impressed us and we would love to tell you about it.

It’s the summer of 2018, June in fact, and you are just minding your own business. Suddenly you get a notification from YouTube – it says: ‘The Elder Scrolls VI: Official Announcement Teaser’. Your heart tenses, your smile widens; the time is nigh! 36 seconds of Nordic music scoring a soaring skyline view of a mountain range. Neat! Now three years on and not a peep or a whisper has been heard from TE6, the time was most certainly not nigh. We thought Redfall may have been the answer to end our tense intrigue, but that turned out to be a separate game entirely. A YouTube profile named ‘Monsieur Dupond’ has even been commenting on the video day-by-day in logbook style. He is nearly on day 1000. Fans are even calling for ‘Dupond’s Logbook’ to feature in the new game. Either way, the release of the 10th Anniversary Edition of Skyrim, which you can read about here, inspired us to take a look into The Elder Scrolls VI, so below we try to delve briefly (we are working off scratchings here) into what we know so far!

For those who haven’t had a chance to play Carrion and are interested in understanding exactly what the game comprises of, simply look at the game’s title: Carrion – a word that refers to the decaying flesh of dead animals, Humans included. Devolver Digital’s collaboration with Phobia Games has produced an innovative and sprightly take on the Metroidvania genre wherein you brutally execute anyone implicit in keeping you ensnared. Fun and games, eh!
What You Should Know About Forza Horizon 5

Back in the early signs of Autumn 2018 we were able to get stuck into the seasonal masterpiece that was Forza Horizon 4, showcasing our home-turf and exploring the many areas of the North was a pleasure for the Britons. But only year or so after the release of FH4 the world was struck by COVID and the spell that the British biome had on us began to wear off; it was all many of us got to see. Then, just as airports began to open up, we caught the humid wind of Playground Games’ Forza Horizon 5, a charming, high octane, Mexico-angled racing fiesta.
